The past couple of weeks, SoCal has had more rain than I have personally observed since my arrival in July 2006. Having a deluge on Saturday night before a party involving driving and then parking in Central Hollywood is a fine way to excuse yourself from responsibility. People tend to freak out here when it rains, like Texans do when it snows – drive like it’s a totally dry day. Texans arguably drive poorly in the rain too, but I haven’t ever had my commute time extend from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours in Austin. That has happened here. During my self-imposed hibernation and writer’s strike combo, I went to the library and checked out Kill Bill: I and Goodbye and Goodluck. Plus I staring watching the Shield. Dang, I always forget how I like a good cop drama. My parents were complete Hill Street Blues and Cagney & Lacey maniacs. The mania apparently lingers in the unconscious mind to resurface once you reach the age of parenting. Just because I’m not having ‘em, doesn’t mean I can’t make ‘em…Man, I think coach potatoing should play a larger role in my weekends.

I have had exactly that happen here in Austin. Of course, it’s more frequent now than 2 years ago.
